Portgower....
Question - After many a year travelling up and down the A9, at various times of day, I have never seen any signs of life in Portgower.....
Rumour has it that it is 'populated' but has anybody actually witnessed life (cats, dogs, humans, etc) with their own eyes?
This has puzzled me for many years

Re: Portgower....
Nice to know that it's not just me that views Portgower as the Marie Celeste of the North.....
I don't think it actually exists - it just appears as you round the bend...once you've gone through I'm damn sure if you keep looking in your mirrors you'll see the houses fade away into thin air.
I once thought I saw someone in a garden...but when I looked again it was just a werewolf...nothing unusual about that in Sutherland.

Re: Portgower....
Legend has it that there were once fisher folk living there but they moved into the hills with the laying of the train line along side the village, fearing the passing trains would whip their skin off and scare away the fish.
The council tried in vain, to lure them back into the village many years later by building new houses, thinking that electricity, warmth and running water may be tempting but the Neanderthal in them resisted all technological advancement beyond fire.
I was told that if you stop in Portgower at night and listen carefully, when the wind is right, you can still hear the mating calls of the locals, I’ve never dared though.

Re: Portgower....
Used to see a man with a mexican style moustache when I used to go through but its many years ago now. Did see two yellow coated bipeds with a little pointy thing in their paws one night.......nasty little critters.
Oh and I did stop to speak to an otter there one night, you should have seen his face when he realised I "wasnt" a ghost
